DIY - A Memorable Gift

“We do not remember days; we remember moments.”
~Cesare Pavese

And that is definitely true with all things weddings.  The memories you make on your wedding day are going to last a lifetime.  And how great is this memory that two Bridesmaids created for their Bride?

Leigh & Ryan got married in December and the morning of their wedding, her two Maids of Honor surprised her with an amazing, memorable gift.  In Leigh’s own words:

Ashley and Kristen stayed with me in my hotel room on Friday night before the wedding and woke me up Saturday morning with a surprise gift.  I'm not usually a crier - I actually didn't shed another tear the entire wedding day because I was just so overwhelmingly happy!  But, seeing the lace from their wedding dresses and our three new monograms on the handkerchief had me just sobbing. :)  I thought it was so thoughtful and unique!

Ashley and Kristen, the MOH’s, gave Leigh a handkerchief with a sweet poem, their monograms and a small piece of lace from their own wedding dresses.  The poem was in light blue thread giving Leigh a little something blue to carry down the aisle.  They left a place on the handkerchief for Leigh to add lace from her dress later on, post wedding.

To do this yourself, simply cut a small piece of lace from your wedding dress (you may be able to get some during alterations or at the bottom where it won’t be noticeable).  On a plain, white handkerchief stitch a short poem & your monograms.  Add the pieces of lace from your dress and the brides.  If you don’t have any experience with stitching, you can easily have a seamstress do this for you.

I just love the thoughtfulness of this gesture and the memories they gave Leigh for her wedding day!

Making Memories

"A good snapshot stops a moment from running away."
~Eudora Welty

Lately I've seen photo booths at a lot of weddings and I think it is such a great idea!  People tend to let loose and have fun with these pictures.  You wind up with great photos and memories from your wedding that will have a different feel than what the photographer captures during the reception.

Most photo booth companies will also supply an album to include the pictures and comments from guests which you can use in place of a guest book.

If you like the feel of these photos but don't want to hire another vendor for your wedding, just ask your photographer if they can create a similar feel.  Most photographers will set up an area with a white sheet and camera for people to pose.  You'll still get the great 'photo booth' style pictures without having to hire another vendor!

Another tip, bring props!  You'll get some great pictures (see below) especially as people loosen up throughout the night :)

      Rain, Rain Go Away?

The first reaction most brides have when they wake up to a rainy wedding day is 'Oh no!  My wedding day is ruined!'.

Of course the rain may put a damper on a few things (i.e. outdoor ceremony/reception needs to moved indoors).  But that's what wedding coordinators are for, we'll take care of making sure the day goes perfectly rain or shine!

The one thing you don't have to worry about is if the pictures will turn out okay or not.  Some of my favorite wedding pictures are on rainy days.  The lighting is muted and beautiful plus the umbrellas add a fun touch!

One of my favorites!  The lighting is perfect.

I love the playfulness of this picture!
We had some fun with the umbrella and matched it to the wedding colors.

You may also worry that rain will ruin your engagement photos, but check out these photos of Ashley & Hunter who stuck it out in the rain and wound up with some great pictures!

So, don't fret if there is a little rain on your wedding day.  Instead have some fun and you'll wind up with some wonderful memories.

And besides, don't they always say rain on your wedding day is good luck?
