Mountain Music

'Oh, play me some mountain music.  Like grandma and grandpa used to play.'

Today I'm off to Colorado to go skiing for the week and celebrate New Year's Eve!  I'm excited to get away and relax in the mountains.  There's something about all that fresh air (and maybe the added wooziness from the altitude sickness) that make me so happy.  I love being outdoors and what better place to do that then the mountains?

And speaking of the mountains, how about a little wedding inspiration to go along with it:

How great is this cake stand?  And it's a DIY!

[Trend Alert] - Cake Pop Cakes

When it comes to weddings, there are constantly new trends coming about (i.e. mason jars, 'vintage', birdcage veils, etc.)  Well, one of the latest trends I've been seeing all over is a cake pop cake.

I just can't decide if I love this trend... It could be fun to simply hand out the cake pops rather than cut up a cake and certainly makes clean up much easier.  But I think I love a traditional wedding cake too much to not have one.  Maybe this would work for the groom's cake?

What do you guys think?

Winter Blues (plus a little rant)

So I have to start out this post with a little rant (I usually keep it 98% wedding related but need to vent a minute)...  I've mentioned before that I travel A LOT (aka every week) for work - the non-wedding, corporate kind of work I have to do.

Per usual, I am sitting in my hotel room this evening writing a post for tomorrow (I should get better at the whole writing ahead thing...)  So tonight as I sit here I just cannot focus. at.all.  The reason for this lack of focus is the lady in the room next to me yelling into her phone for the last hour while she chats it up with her besties on speaker phone.  I can hear every single word (i.e.: seriously it just does not make sense.  like really I'm not going to take this from him anymore. uh ya, you know it girl.)  So here I am with my few moments I get to myself each night trying to relax and write for you lovely people and I am having to throw on some headphones to drown her out.  To me, its a common courtesy to turn down the volume on the tv, turn down the music, and  more importantly turn down the volume of your voice when you're in a hotel.  Isn't it just a known fact that sound travels in a hotel room???  Apparently she can't hear my loud passive aggressive sighs through the paper thin walls.

~ ~ ~

Whew, okay sorry for that.  Hopefully you're still with me and ready for the wedding related part of this post :)  Today I have a little winter wedding inspiration for you.  When it comes to a winter wedding you can go so many directions, but one of my favorites is incorporating blues (from navy to ice blue) with a touch of silver for that perfect winter look.

What do you guys think?  Are you loving the winter blues as much as me?

I'm kind of obsessed with this bouquet - white peonies? Yes please!

I love when a couple does something unique for their aisle.  It's often a piece of the wedding left untouched and forgotten.

Today's {A Little Something} is the perfect touch to make the aisle stand out.

Glitz & Glitter

Glitter, it's everywhere right now (fashion, make-up, accessories).  And I personally love it!  Can your really ever have too many sparkles or too much glitz?

Okay, yes you can have too much glitter:

So let's not take it that far and use the rule: 'a little goes a long way'.

There are so many ways to add a little bit of glitz & glitter to your wedidng day.  Your shoes, your makeup, you nails, and on and on.

Start the wedding festivities off right with a sparkly rehearsal dress:

Or add a little sparkle to your eyes:

Or add a little sparkle to your nails:

Love this glitter shrug to throw on after the ceremony:

Instead of adding the glitz to your look, how about a sparkly cake:

How amazing is this vintage broach bouquet?  The perfect way to add some sparkle to your wedding day!

Or maybe all out glitter isn't your thing -  Take a shot at this DIY and add some glitter to the bottom of your wedding shoes.  So fun!

Do you like a little glitz & glitter as much as I do?  How would you incorporate it into your big day?

It's Like White On Rice

When you think of a wedding, one of the first colors that comes to mind is white - the color of the bride's dress.  This tradition of a white dress became popular in the 1800's during the Victorian era because Queen Victoria wore a white lace dress for her wedding to Prince Albert.

In the 1800's a white dress showed the family's wealth and was also the color of a dress to be worn when presented at court.  In time the white wedding dress also came to mean innocence and purity.  Today this tradition has expanded to include ivory, cream or eggshell.

All in all, a white dress equals a wedding in most people's eyes.  So, what about bringing white into all of the other elements of your wedding?  I think all white weddings can be absolutely stunning.  But I also definitely think you need a little color mixed in with the white like a pale pink or lavender.  Something subtle enough that it won't take away from the elegant white but that will break it up a bit.

I love the way the subtle pink plays off of the white details.

What do you think of an all white wedding?

Written In Stone

Or fabric.  Or your shoes.  Or your hand.

There seems to be a new trend these days of writing your wedding date or a sweet message to your partner somewhere out of the oridnary.  Brides are embroidering their wedding date into the hem of their dresses.  Couples are writing their wedding date on the bottoms of their shoes for their save-the-date announcements.  One couple even wrote a bible verses in Africaans on their aisle runner.

Some of these make for some really amazing photo ops!

This bride sewed a message & their wedding date into her groom's tie:

And a more subtle message, this bride put her fingerprint on the inside of her groom's ring:

Back It Up

When you try on your dress, it is important that you are comfortable and happy in the dress. Another thing (that sometimes gets overlooked) is making sure the back of your dress looks just as amazing as the front.  Because, when you're standing up at the altar, most of your guests will be staring at the back of your dress as they watch you say your vows.  I love when brides have something a little unexpected to show their guests (i.e. open lace, a giant bow, a super long train, etc.)

There are so many options for dresses out there and with the different styles for the back of the dress, that number multiplies.  So, here's a little look at some of the options out there for the back of your dress.

Bows

Love how this dress almost makes the bride look like a ballerina!

Open Backs

These open back dresses make for a sexy wedding day look!  You can go for completely open to just a little bit of skin showing.

Covered Backs

This lace covered back is probably my favorite option.  Simply stunning!

I love how each dress is unique and really shows off the individual brides style.  You can go more conservative with a lace covered back or have a little fun with a large bow.  The options are endless!  What's your favorite style?
